Ten Weeks of Writer's Prep
Week Seven: Support Systems!
Hey everyone! Our last Week Seven challenge revolved around creating proper sidekicks for your protagonist (See Here) but what about real life? The truth is, some of us could use a little support in our writing to keep our motivation going when we inevitably experience lulls. So why not acknowledge that you are the protagonist in your own writing experience and take a look around to identify your own writing sidekicks? These are the people who will beg you for the next chapter or book so that they can read it, they might be the individuals you trust enough to use as a soundboard when figuring out your plot and characters, they may be the people you are comfortable receiving writing notes from, or perhaps they are the people who are even willing to edit your draft for you. Regardless of their role, it's your challenge this week to figure out who's in the inner circle of your writing adventure.
Good luck!
P.S. Shout out to my number one fan, my mother who has no reservations with asking for the next book, when it will be written, how it's going, when it will be ready for her to read...
Shout out to my best friend Esther who understands the fragility of a creative spirit when receiving notes on their book baby, and for whom I am eternally grateful to receive notes and prompts from.
Shout out to Deyan, a friend I met during my travels who always checks in on my writing progress even though I haven't let him read any of it yet.
Shout out to Carl, who lets me talk his ear off when I've come up with ideas or scenes that I'm particularly proud of.
Good luck!

Ten Weeks of Challenges
Week Seven: Health Routine!
Hello Ramblers!
Last seventh week of challenges, we focused on checking in with our friends (See Here), really taking the time to listen to the answer 'How are you?' and caring about the answers we receive. This time around however, I want you to take this week to check in on yourself, especially in light of all that is currently going on in the world. Are you doing all that you can do to make sure you are in a healthy place? If not, consider creating a daily routine for yourself that emphasizes some aspect of your health. This might mean choosing a meal that gets just a little extra attention nutritionally, maybe it's a half hour of yoga when you wake up or an hour of working out in the afternoon, perhaps it is meditation or a good book before bed, a video call with a friend, or connecting with your community online.
I myself have been focusing on the latter. Having been sick for the past month, in self-isolation and now official quarantine, I've been making myself feel just a little less alone and useless every evening by scheduling in ten to fifteen minutes of story time for the children in my community where I read them a little bedtime story of Facebook Live. This of course, isn't everyones cup of tea, but I've always had a soft spot for making children comfortable and happy even when times are scary and uncertain, so this has helped me by confirming to myself that I can still accomplish this even while locked up.
I would love to hear what health routines you are all implementing for yourselves, and invite you to share them in the comments below. Perhaps your idea is one that will help someone else!
Good luck!
