Shout Out to the Wonderfuls!

So no one told you life was gonna be this way! (I sincerely hope you clapped four times) .  If you caught on to this reference, then you’re already well aware of the topic of this week’s blog. For those of you who have never seen the show I am referencing, this blog is all about friends without whom life would be significantly less enjoyable. Now, if you’re like me, you have a large variety of friends, all of which fall into very different categories and have helped you create very different types of awesome memories. You've  got everything from that best friend you always hang around, to that one friend you only see now and again but are always able to pick up right where you left off, you've  got those friends you chat with all the time but never get to see, etc.   Let’s take the time to remember each of these friends shall we? As we do so, I would like to challenge you to contact those who come to mind and let them know you thought of th...

Judge, Jury, and Executioner!

We’ve all heard those sayings that people say over and over again. Some we agree with and some we don’t; Ignorance is bliss , Blood is thicker than water , Business before pleasure etc,. However, there is one that I believe most of us can always agree with; we are our own worst enemy. More often than not, we internally criticize our work, our efforts, and our abilities. We do so to the point of redoing something a gagillion times. In fact, as our own personal critics, we seem to criticize ourselves as though we are being paid to do so. Some artists rework and rework, do millions of little ‘touch ups’ all the while in fear of ruining the aspect that they actually liked in the first place. They create in constant fear of going that one step too far. A lot of writers read, and re-read, and re-read, and re-read, ( this could go on for as long as the re-reading process itself…) all the while doing a ton of edits and changes, constantly second guessing and wondering if they shou...

A Revolution of Sizemic Proportion

I realize that my posts usually have a little more humor to them but today, I post about something that I find rather serious because I have seen it do harm to people I care a great deal about. In my last post, I talked about taking control of our own body image but what about society’s impact? We constantly see campaigns in social media arguing over whether it is better to be skinny or voluptuous. People claiming to know what men like best or lashing out because they feel their body type has been attacked. We see the same geared towards the other gender. People claiming that it is better to be muscular, better to be tall, better to have short hair, better to have long hair, that this is what women want a man to look like. We also hear terms such as shallow, pig, and chubby chaser thrown around and geared towards people who are attracted to a specific body type. We see people shaming others left, right, and center. To those shaming others I say; give it up! Some men lik...

Mirror Mirror, …why are you such an ass?

We've  all done it, looked in the mirror and yucked even though the day before we were just fine with the way we looked. Some days the mirror is kind, other days it’s about as nice as a dodgeball, …or a wrench. (If you caught the reference and inserted the obvious quote, props to you!) It  doesn't  matter how many compliments we may get, or how good we may think we look objectively, we will always find fault with something. I’m too skinny, too flabby, too round, too chipmunk cheeked, not enough muscles, not tall enough, my hair is too thin, my hair is too straight, my hair is too curly, etc. These are often the things that come to mind when we receive a compliment, the things that discredit the flattering things being said about us.    We feel as though those paying us praise are just saying nice things to make us feel better. We feel as though it is impossible for them to see the things they compliment us on because that is not what we see w...
