Anger Festers

“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than anything on which it is poured.”  - Mark Twain What is it about anger that consumes us so thoroughly? It builds and multiplies, it obsesses and repeats thoughts of blame, spite and vindictiveness within our minds. Whether it is geared towards another or directed at ourselves, it often causes a skipping effect within our heads similar to that of a scratched Vinyl or CD. We hear the arguments replaying again and again, we blame and attack the person who has upset us even when that person is us. We clamp down and refuse to let go even though it isn't helping us in the least to do so. We focus so much on what was said or done when we could be directing that energy into generating a solution or simply moving on with our lives. Now, I'm not above anger in the least. I am just as guilty of this as the next person and will admit that I had some serious trouble managing my anger growing ...

Nirvana Among the Couch Cusions

Alright bros and bras, so I had two other ideas for possible posts to write about tonight but sometimes, the mood strikes at the last minute to write about something entirely unrelated. So, as I sit here in my coziest of pj's (Olaf onesie for the dorky win!) I want to refer back to last weeks post. Some things in life are fantastic but highly underrated and under appreciated and sometimes, we just have to take a moment to give those seemingly small things due praise.  Can we just stop and appreciate that oh so relaxed feeling we get at night, when we've had ourselves a very busy and productive day and at the end of it all, a beautiful union occurs? You know the one. That glorious moment when our ass finally lands itself in our spot on the couch or in our recliner.  Awww yeaaa. Magic.  Today was one of those such days for me. I woke up, ran errands, went to work, went to the gym (and beat my cardio record I might add), and then I got home with the food ...

The Happier Things in Life are Lighter

Sometimes, it can be easy to lose sight of all of life's little gifts. Bills pile up, obligations and responsibilities distract us, errands and chores take up that one day off we happened to get in the week. However sometimes, no matter how busy your day may be, it just goes wonderfully. The sun shines brightly, you happen upon an old friend and make plans to catch up after work, you get a compliment on your outfit, and your favourite song comes on while you're on your way to or from work. These moments may seem small in the grander scheme of things, but in that moment they make your day feel great. Moments like these, if we can learn to put more focus on them, make the tedious trademarks of being an adult that much more bearable, enjoyable even. Having a difficult time remembering what these little things may be? I recommend reading The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha, also the author of 1000 Awesome Things , or looking up some of your favourite youtube go to...

Black Thumb, Green Thumb

“Almost any garden, if you see it at just the right moment, can be confused with paradise.”   -Henry Mitchell If you would have asked me to plant a garden a couple years ago, I'm relatively certain you would have seen a look of complete horror and dread cross my face, .... possibly followed by incredulous laughter. Mine was definitely not a green thumb. In fact, it was black. Black as the depths of the deepest abyss. My thumb had the ultra useful super power of being able to kill plants.  The only thing I had not managed to kill was the bamboo I bought in college six years ago, and if I'm being honest, it spent three years at my parents. I don't care how resilient bamboo is, I probably could have found a way to kill it had it come with me upon moving out. No, I was definitely not well suited for gardens unless it was spring time weeding where I could do little to no harm.  Now however, I have slowly, and finally , been turning the black thumb of doo...
