Help in Accountability

Well Rambler's, soon begins our 10 weeks of challenges, I hope you're as excited as I am!

Speaking of challenges!  Some of you may or may not know this about me, but I often have a difficult time holding myself accountable to my goals. Especially when it comes to morning routines. There are so many things I know I could accomplish in that time, but I'm a Snooze Queen. I will choose that snooze button every time.

That being said if you read my blog regularly, you'll know that I encourage asking for help in your goals.

That's why when I recently decided to start waking up early to workout, I turned to a friend for assistance. See, I knew that if I woke up and saw my alarm clock and focused on the fact that I was tired and in want of more sleep, the snooze button would win my attention. However, if I woke up and was distracted from my alarm with a text message, then I'd be more keen to see what it said than to slip back into sleep. So I asked my friend who is in a time zone that is three hours behind me, to text me something when he went to bed (when I would surely be fast asleep myself) and in the morning I woke up smiling that he had done so, hit snooze, and read the message. Not only did this provide a worthy distraction from the temptation of the all-powerful snooze, but it also ensured that I woke up in a good mood, eager to begin my day on the right foot.

I identified a problem. I decided on a way to alter my mindset. I asked for help.

Another way I go about changing my mindset in my goals and asking for help in keeping me focused is by organizing writing days with my best friend. One of the biggest challenges a writer faces is not in finding the creativity, but in making the time to deny distractions. By setting days where my best friend and I are both writing, we are both able to help keep each other on track. We call each other out over webcam when either one of us is getting distracted, we work as each other's soundboards when one of us needs to work through an idea out loud, and we motivate and support each other when our ideas start really coming together. It's magical.

So now it's your turn. Are there any goals that you've set out to accomplish but found yourself falling short of? Is there a way that a friend might be able to help you keep on track? Perhaps it's finding someone to join a class with you, or to hold you accountable by scheduling after dinner walks with you. Maybe you are looking to reconnect with your creative side and just need someone who is willing to help you channel your creative energy through a paint session or photoshoot. It could be you just need someone to ask questions and remind you to put thought into expanding your initial ideas.

Need help coming up with a way to involve friends in assisting you with your goals? Feel free to comment below or email me at thebrastreetrambler@gmail.com and I'll be more than happy to help you troubleshoot some ideas!

Cheers!
The Bra Street Rambler
