Ten
Weeks of Writers Prep
Week
Four: Plot Points!
This week, figure out the basics of
your story. It’s all fine and dandy to have characters in mind but
it definitely helps to know what is going to happen to them.
How does their adventure begin?
What happens during the escalation? In
which way does their world change?
What is the biggest conflict your
character will face?
How are the conflicts resolved?
How does your story end?
These are all things that you will need
to know while facing the pressure filled deadline of NaNoWriMo. Feel
free to keep things simple this week bearing in mind that you can
come back as much as you like and fill in the gaps between plot
checkpoints.
Personally, I have found it useful to
start with my five checkpoints, later coming back to add any other
conflicts, flashbacks, memories, conversations, discoveries, etc,.
However, it really is dependent on what works best for you. Some
people only need a general idea of where they are going, I myself
need a full on preparation assault prior to sitting down to write in order to avoid getting
caught in the pit of writer's block. If this is a method you think might prove useful for you, stay tuned because there is definitely more plotting afoot!

Weeks of Challenges
Week Four: Bucket List Assist!
Long time readers will know
that I am a huge advocate for Bucket Lists. They are a great way to
remind us that we are alive. Not just existing, but truly here, able
to experience so many aspects of life that we often take for granted,
often forgetting how finite our time here is.
Bucket Lists challenge us
not to be complacent in our own lives, to believe in and achieve our
dreams both small and large, but alas, this weeks challenge has
nothing to do with your bucket list! This weeks challenge is about
helping someone in your life achieve something on their bucket
list.
Spread
the reward that exists in having a Bucket List, remind someone else
to go out and truly live their lives. Ask a friend or acquaintance
what is on their Bucket List, challenge them to come up with things
both big and small. These can include anything from travelling to a
new country, to camping out, building a blanket fort, or going to a
pottery painting class. The possibilities truly are endless! Once
they've shared some of their list with you, pick something out to
help them accomplish.
We've
only got these lives of ours for a short while, let us help each
other make the most of them!
