The Bra Street Rambler Returns!

Greetings Rambler's,

I do apologize for my impromptu hiatus, something came up and I had my mental health to prioritize. As long time readers will know by now, making time for self-care is something I feel strongly about. This brings us to today's post and my return to blogging.

The world has become a very scary place indeed, as we live through history in the making, and face uncertainty at every turn. It is in times like these that we must come together, to help one another, and to find new ways to keep our spirits lifted.

In this moment, I would like to send a Great Big Shout Out to Italy and Spain for the videos that have been circulating around the globe proving that even while on lock down, even while quarantined, even while practicing social distancing, we can come together to create something beautiful. If you haven't seen what I am referring to, I invite you to head over to YouTube and look up the many videos of citizens singing together, playing music together, and having dance parties, all from their individual balconies. Truly, this is both beautiful and inspiring.

I would also like to take this time to offer up other ideas on activities we can turn to, and opportunities we can take advantage of, while we are in our homes.

  • Check out your local libraries website. Some, like my own, are still putting out programming online that families can enjoy from their own homes.
  • Various museums around the world are offering virtual tours online, why not explore? https://robbreport.com/lifestyle/news/14-virtual-museum-to-visit-during-social-distancing-and-quarantine-2905827/
  • Ever wanted to learn a new language? Now seems as good a time as any! There are many free online resources for this! Might I suggest sign language? Perhaps you have a lot of refugees and immigrants who have come to join your community over the past years, why not learn their language? I myself have been learning a little Swahili.
  • Ever wanted to try yoga but felt embarrassed going to a class? There are so many video on YouTube for you to take advantage of!
  • Just because you can't hang out with your friend in person, doesn't mean you can't see them! Try scheduling FaceTime, Skype, Duo, and Google Hangout calls with friends and family!
  • Ever wanted to write your own book? Blog? D&D campaign? Learn to paint, knit, or craft? Why not now?
  • There are a lot of good causes out there, why not take advantage of this time to knit hats for the premature baby ward at the hospital? Or animal pouches for your local animal rescue?
  • Feeling bland? A friend's daughter (Hello Sierra!) has asked that everyone dress up fancy for dinner! Why not!?
  • Laughter is the best medicine! A friend from college will be having a talent show with her family over Skype! Why not try the same!?
  • Are you of legal drinking age and need a drink? My favourite evening hang out, though closed, is still operating online! Check out your favourite places, or come check out mine! My favourite bartender will work with your liquor cabinet to help you create the perfect cocktail! Or Quarantini, if you will. You can find him on Instagram @getpucked and if you feel so inclined, you can tip the bartender online. (Please drink responsibly!)

Do you have other ways of keeping busy and staying sane while in quarantine? Drop them in the comments down below!

I'd also like to invite everyone to share any inspiring videos to my Facebook page , let's help lift each other up!

Finally, in an effort to keep us all socializing while on lock down, I will be considering going live either by video or chat in the weeks to come, dependent on my health of course as I am currently sick. Stay posted for that, and if you have any questions you'd like me to answer during that time, I invite you to email me at thebrastreetrambler@gmail.com

I know times are stressful right now, but together we Can and Will get through this.
Cheers!
The Bra Street Rambler

P.S. In the days to come, I will be trying to get back on track with the challenges I'd left off on back in September. Thank you for having patience with me while I try to do this while sick.

  1. Wow! So many great ideas to stay connected, I don't know where to start! They all sound like a blast!
Swahili?! I would love to hear how you're doing thus far!
Sign language is a perfect option for those who are more visual learners.
If you could see me right now, I'm doing the international signage for "Thumbs up!", which, as it turns out, is a Thumbs up! :)
Great read. Glad to see your back.😎

    1. Hello there, thank you for taking the time to read and comment! Learning any language is a process but I'll get there! So far I've got some greetings down, and I've been told my pronunciation is impressive. One day at a time!

Good luck with your own self-isolation endeavours, may we all come out of this having learned new and wonderful things!
